Nintendo has issued a press release revealing the name of the DS's successor: the Nintendo 3DS. As its name indicates, the new handheld system will support 3D gameplay, but notably without the need to wear 3D glasses; apparently, it will simulate an illusion of depth using a built-in sensor that follows your head's movement, though this is currently unconfirmed. The 3DS will also support backwards compatibility with older DS and DSi titles. More details regarding the system will be revealed at the E3 convention on June 15th, and according to Nintendo, the 3DS will see an official Japanese release before March 2011. How exciting!
